Position Description

As the Controller, you are a key player within our organization, reporting directly to the CEO. Responsible for driving the financial strategy, forecasting, budgeting company-wide, and providing valuable insights that will contribute to the overall success of the company. You will lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating closely with department heads to align financial goals with broader company objectives, and continually refining forecasting models to adapt to the dynamic nature of the tech startup landscape. Furthermore, accountable for presenting comprehensive financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the business. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will be required to work in the office multiple days a week.

What you bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field; CA or CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience - 5+ years in a senior accounting role with a focus on FP&A.
  • Previous experience working for a SaaS organization and/or early-stage startup.
  • Demonstrated expertise in securing funding through successful participation in investment rounds.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to inspire and influence leadership.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting tools.

Responsibilities 

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop and maintain the company's financial models for budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
  • Analyze financial data, trends, and performance to provide insights and recommendations to senior management.

Budgeting, Forecasting and Cash Flow Management:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and work closely with department heads to ensure alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Develop and refine forecasting models to enhance accuracy and support strategic decision-making.
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial transactions and adherence to financial policies.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow, implementing strategies to optimize liquidity and support operational needs.
  • Direct the payroll function, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.

Strategic Financial Leadership:

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the company's growth objectives.
  • Provide recommendations for optimizing financial performance and improving operational efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with teams involved in accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll, ensuring seamless coordination and a unified financial approach.
  • Provide financial guidance to other departments, fostering a culture of financial responsibility throughout the organization.

Process Optimization

  • Implement and refine efficient financial processes for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll, driving improvements in accuracy and efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and technology integration to enhance overall financial operations.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare detailed financial reports covering all facets, from budgetary performance to accounts reconciliation.
  • Guarantee compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal financial policies.

Compensation

Pani offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a comprehensive health & dental benefits and paid time off. The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $75,000 to $110,000. The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, location, experience and expertise.
