Head of Finance (Accountant or Senior Bookkeeper – Depending on Experience)

Overview
We are hiring one person to lead our finance function across Grapevine Media and Green Media. Depending on the candidate’s experience and capability, the role will be appointed at either an Accountant or Senior Bookkeeper level. This is a leadership position and the successful applicant will take full responsibility for overseeing daily financial operations, managing external service providers, and ensuring financial compliance and control.
This is a sole appointment: only one candidate will be selected based on capability and cultural fit.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Leadership
Lead day-to-day financial operations including bookkeeping oversight, reconciliations, and cash flow management.
Manage the relationship with our external accounting provider (The Beancounter).
Monitor accounts payable and receivable, ensure collections are made within agreed terms.
Assist in preparation of payroll and SARS submissions.
Support the preparation of monthly management reports and compliance packs.
Prepare or support annual budgets and liaise with auditors as needed.
Maintain financial records in Xero and ensure accuracy in all ledgers.
Light HR/IT/Facilities Oversight (10%)
Liaise with LaborNet and assist with employment contracts and HR compliance.
Manage basic IT procurement decisions and vendor coordination.
Maintain an asset register (e.g. laptops, screens) and coordinate with insurance as needed.
Handle light facilities oversight including office consumables and maintenance coordination.

Able to operate independently and own the finance function with confidence.
Comfortable communicating with internal teams and external partners.
Technically strong, especially in reconciliations, VAT, payroll, and accounting systems.
Leadership mindset with a hands-on approach to improving systems and enforcing discipline. 👉 You take initiative to fix what’s broken, automate where possible, and suggest improvements without being prompted.
Requirements
We are open to candidates from two levels of experience:
Accountant Level (Up to R60,000 CTC):
BCom in Accounting or similar
5–8+ years in accounting and financial oversight
Strong Xero, Excel, and reporting capability
Strategic understanding of cash flow, compliance, and finance control
Senior Bookkeeper Level (Up to R40,000 CTC):
Diploma or BCom in Bookkeeping/Accounting
5+ years of full bookkeeping experience
Strong reconciliations, VAT, and payroll knowledge
Confident working with external providers and owning daily finance tasks
